September Is All About Rhythm!

Last month, we explored Harmony in depth. We released a seven part series on Youtube. We also released five free harmony quizzes on our website.

This month, we’re exploring rhythm in depth. We’ll have videos, quizzes, and weekly trivia all month related to rhythm. Follow us on Facebook to see everything!

Student of the Month

September’s student of the month is Cathy. She’s a new student to us but is returning to the keyboard in retirement. She’s proven in a very short time her high level of determination and work ethic in addition to being a joy to teach.

Name: Cathy

Instrument: Piano

Time Playing: I started taking piano lessons in August after I retired from my job as a paralegal. I played organ in junior high and high school 50 years ago, but I haven’t touched a keyboard since then … until now, and I love it!

Favorite Song We’ve Learned So Far: I enjoy playing Greensleeves and Scarborough Fair. I also picked up a book of Christmas songs that are fun to learn.

Dream Song To Learn: I want to learn some Fleetwood Mac songs so I can play them with my husband who’s a drummer and my son who plays guitar.

Favorite Activity Outside of Music: I love spending time with my granddaughters and reading. I am also a volunteer at a hospice facility and find that very rewarding.

Alex’s Cool Music Gear of the Month

Gap Click

Some tools are awesome because they create something totally new and unique. Others are great because they make huge improvements on something that is already good. This falls into the latter category.

The ‘Gap Click’ is an app for your phone. It’s a metronome. However, it is no ordinary metronome. It has the ability to change the beats it emphasizes, skip beats, or even skip entire measures. The purpose of this is to see how consistent your timing is. Create your own tests that are more diverse than merely keeping in time with the metronome.

This powerful tool was invented by legendary drummer Benny Greb. And at just $5, it’s an easy sell. You’ll probably see this app featured in an upcoming YouTube video.

This section promotes not just teacher music shows but also student shows as well!

How Bout Dem Packers?

What a strange start to the football season. Injuries caused a lot of doubt but despite that, Green Bay is 2-2. The next month has a bunch of non divisional games. Still important, but not the most important games. Our defense seems to be holding up really well. Xavier McKinney has had an interception in every game this season! Hopefully we can turn the offense around with a healthy Jordan Love and prove to be a force to be reckoned with.

Update on Robyn

Last but not least, as many of you know, Robyn has been taking some time off to have surgery. The mole on her lower right eyelid turned out to be melanoma. Fortunately, the diagnosis was surface level only. On Monday September 23rd, her mole was removed and on Friday September 27th, doctors reconstructed her lower eyelid. While the surgery is done, it will still take another six weeks to fully recover from the surgery.

As of right now, she is home and well. She has been resting and doctors are confident she will fully recover. We want to thank everyone for all their prayers and kind words.
