Student of the Month
When awarding student of the month, we often look for a student who has gone above and beyond, had a significant breakthrough, or taken a leap of faith. August’s winner has done all three.
Cory picked a really tough song to work on this summer (Detroit Rock City). Then he decided to to tackle the solo section. And then decided to try and perform it at this months recital.
When the dust had settled, he conquered what probably seemed like a mountain at the time and made everyone proud.
Great work Cory and congrats on being our student of the month!
Name: Cory
Instrument: Guitar
Time With Us: 19 Months
Impressive Feat: Learning and performing Detroit Rock City and the Summer Bowl and Jam.
Alex's Cool Music Gear of the Month
Want to learn a new song? Songsterr.com is one of my favorite places to look. It has a huge library of music for guitar, bass, drums, and more. I use it all the time when students ask to learn a new song.
What makes Songsterr especially cool is that the music can play while you read it. The tab moves along with the song and shows you exactly where you are. That makes it much easier to hear how a guitar riff, bass line, or drum beat is supposed to sound.
You can use many of the basic features for free, while Songsterr Plus adds tools like slowing songs down, looping hard sections, and muting different parts. Whether you are working on your first song or learning something tricky, Songsterr can be a great practice helper.
Summer Jam & Bowl
On August 22nd, we held our first ever Jam & Bowl Recital.
Students bowled with their friends and then came and performed for the whole alley.
In total we had 11 lanes filled with families and kids. It was a real blast and we are definitely going to do this again in February.
Thanks to everyone who participated. It was a breath of fresh air and something cool, exciting, and different!
Adults Open Jam
We also held our 2nd ever Adults Open Jam. This time we held it at Paulie’s Pub in Greenfield.
It was such an amazing turnout. All of our performers did such a great job. Everyone was prepared and worked hard. They should be so proud of how they did.
We will definitely be back here again to do another jam.
Stay tuned for the next one in November!
Thank You Paul
Paul has been with us for nearly a year and a half. He was one of the first teachers hired back when Milwaukee Music Lessons was first getting started.
He’s been a valued member of the team. A teacher who’s continuously shown that he’s happy to go above and beyond for his students. People who have met him will know that his smile and humor are infectious.
Paul will be fully entering retirement in September. You may still see him occasionally here as a substitute or for special events.
We are wishing Paul the happiest of retirements and hope he fully enjoys his much deserved travel and family time.
