Bio

Alex builds long-term lesson plans around each student’s interests and goals. In your first lesson, you’ll sit down together to map out where you want to be in 90 days and in a year, then he keeps you accountable with clear practice plans, regular feedback, and progress check-ins every three months. In the first 2–4 lessons, Alex focuses on simple, consistent patterns so brand-new players can perform a recognizable song quickly and start building confidence. After 90 days on guitar, his students typically know how to tune, name their strings, read basic notes and tabs, and play 3–4 simple songs, often including their first chords and strum patterns. On drums, students learn the parts of the kit, a solid rock beat, basic drum notation, and how to keep time well enough to play along with songs.

Teaching Strengths

  • Getting absolute beginners confidently playing their first song
  • Building solid, sustainable practice habits at home
  • Coaching students in songwriting and improvisation
  • Breaking down complex or “vague” musical ideas into clear, step-by-step concepts

Best Fit Students & Personality

Alex is especially well suited for ambitious students who are curious, like to explore music on their own, and want a clear plan to get better. His specialties are blues, rock, and metal, and students often describe him as patient, encouraging, outgoing, personal, and a careful planner. When he’s not teaching, you’ll probably find him playing video games or listening to artists like Plini, Rush, Periphery, Guthrie Govan, Alter Bridge, Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin.

Student Success Story

One of Alex’s favorite success stories is a shy teen who had never really found an activity that clicked. Over time, guitar lessons helped her come out of her shell, build confidence, and discover a love for both guitar and musical theater. She eventually went on to study musical theater in college and is now a full-time musician, which is exactly the kind of transformation Alex loves helping students create.

Bio

Reece is an energetic, laid-back teacher who helps students truly understand their instrument, not just memorize songs. His lessons focus on strong fundamentals and basic music theory so students can navigate many genres, recognize common song structures, and eventually improvise on their own. In the first 90 days, Reece’s guitar and piano students work on core technique, major and minor chords, and practical theory, all wrapped around songs they actually enjoy. He places a big emphasis on effective practice habits so students leave each lesson knowing exactly what to work on and how to keep improving between visits.

Teaching Strengths

  • Building solid, realistic practice routines at home
  • Preparing students for recitals and live performances
  • Helping students use theory, scales, and chords for songwriting and improvisation

Best Fit Students & Personality

Reece is an especially strong fit for students who already know some basics on their instrument and want to “level up” their playing, especially intermediate guitarists and beginner to low-intermediate piano students. Students describe him as energetic, laid back, careful, and efficient in how he explains musical concepts.

When he’s not teaching, you’ll probably find Reece practicing or writing music, skateboarding, rock climbing, or relaxing with a game controller in hand. He’s currently listening to bands like Title Fight, Superheaven, and Pinegrove, and a fun fact students love is that he played trombone in high school.

Student Success Story

One of Reece’s first students came in knowing basic cowboy and barre chords on guitar. Over time, Reece guided him through theory, pentatonic and major scales, plus blues and jazz concepts. With consistent practice outside of lessons and Reece’s coaching, that student now has serious chops and a much deeper command of the instrument, which is exactly the kind of transformation Reece aims to create.

Bio

Paul is an energetic, deeply experienced teacher who loves sharing music with others. With five decades of playing and over 40 years of teaching, he specializes in meeting students exactly where they are in their musical journey and showing them a clear path forward. His lessons use short, simple exercises and slow, steady repetition so students see a little improvement every week and learn to be patient with themselves. With consistent practice over the first 90 days, Paul’s students can expect to be playing basic songs in their favorite genres and starting to feel truly comfortable on the guitar.

Teaching Strengths

  • Getting absolute beginners started and playing their first simple song
  • Building solid, realistic practice habits at home
  • Helping shy or unsure students build confidence over time

Best Fit Students & Personality

Paul is a great fit for any age student who wants to learn music and songs composed by others, across many styles of contemporary music. Students and parents often describe him as patient and enthusiastic, and he absolutely loves sharing his passion for guitar. When he’s not teaching, you’ll probably find Paul playing guitar or reading, often listening to bands like King’s X, Rush, Nickel Creek, and Vasen.

Student Success Story

One of Paul’s favorite success stories is a boy who started guitar at age 7, which can be a challenging age for the instrument. Week after week, the student showed up, worked hard, and kept practicing, even when certain chords were difficult. Over time, his persistence paid off as his playing skills steadily improved, showing how far consistent effort and patient guidance can take a young guitarist.

  • Performance Highlights:
    • Church handbell choir
    • Church band
    • Lutheran Chorale
    • Milwaukee Metro Community Concert Band

Bio

Robyn is a patient, encouraging teacher who specializes in helping beginners and intermediate students build a rock-solid musical foundation. With over two decades of experience on piano, concert percussion, and voice, she focuses on basics like note reading, finger numbers, keyboard patterns, and rhythm so students can grow with confidence. In lessons, Robyn weaves each student’s personal goals into a clear path, either breaking big goals into small steps or building the stepping-stone skills needed to get there. Over the first 90 days, piano students typically develop note, finger, and keyboard recognition plus emerging rhythm-reading skills, while voice students gain awareness of body and breath and a basic understanding of intervals, including singing a minor third.

Teaching Strengths

  • Getting absolute beginners playing their first simple song on piano
  • Helping shy students build confidence with patient, step-by-step guidance
  • Laying strong fundamental skills that support long-term progress
  • Developing basic rhythm and interval recognition for singers and pianists

Best Fit Students & Personality

Robyn is an excellent fit for both children and adult beginners who want a gentle, structured start to music lessons. Students and parents describe her as patient, encouraging, structured, and flexible, and they especially appreciate her calm, steady approach. When she’s not teaching, you’ll probably find Robyn reading or crocheting.

Student Success Story

One of Robyn’s favorite moments in teaching is when a physical concept finally “clicks” for a voice student: their eyes light up and their sound changes instantly. The real transformation happens when students internalize a concept, understand how it feels in their own body, and can reliably recreate that feeling to get the sound they want. That shift from “trying” to truly owning a skill is what Robyn loves helping students experience.

"My son eagerly awaits each lesson..."

“My 11 year old son has been taking drum lessons with Alex for nine months and absolutely loves going. He has never had lessons before. Along with teaching music theory, each lesson includes a very relatable song to a kid. My son eagerly awaits each lesson in anticipation of finding out what new fun song he’ll learn.”

– Jenni Hanson

They get a hundred stars from this student!

“Robyn is an outstanding piano teacher with boundless patience and kindness. She really makes learning a fun experience. Both Robyn and Alex are organized, efficient, and talented with music, their teaching styles, and the way they run their small business. They get a hundred stars from this student!”

– Cathy Zabler

"I've made more progress in that time than the dozens of times I've tried to teach myself."

“I’ve been taking lessons from Alex for over a month now and I’ve made more progress in that time than the dozens of times I’ve tried to teach myself. Alex is patient, explains things clearly (not just the how, but also the why), and makes it fun! I’m learning the songs I want to learn out of the gate. Alex shows me the proper techniques that have helped me get over the humps that held me back in the past and the tools that he offers have been huge (mp3 files of the songs that I can play along with has been a game changer). I can’t say enough about how happy and excited I am to be working with Alex and Milwaukee Music Lessons!”

– Stephanie Moore

"...It’s wonderful that my son has found such a great mentor."

“We’ve been with Alex for almost a year now. Our 11yr old son has loved his weekly guitar lessons and has improved so much in this time. He and Alex have established a really solid bond and it’s wonderful that my son has found such a great mentor. Alex is a talented and enthusiastic teacher, and we whole-heartedly recommend him. Thank you Alex!”

– Jess Weber

"My son has come a long way in just a few months."

“My son has been taking guitar lessons with Alex for a few months now and he loves it! He looks forward to going every week. Alex is fun and engaging. He is very student led and lets my son even choose songs that he wants to learn. He also encourages and pushes him in areas that need improvement. My son has come a long way in just a few months. Awesome teacher, highly recommend!”

– Scott Hoff

"I made the decision to learn to play the guitar from an experienced teacher..."

“Alex has the ability to adjust quickly during a lesson to meet a students needs. if I am not grasping a concept he will change wording, demonstrate or find an example in a song from his extensive memory bank. I made the decision to learn to play the guitar from an experienced teacher rather than try to figure things out for myself. I believe this is a good investment of my time and money..”

– Donna Galik

"Highly recommend."

“Alex is a professional both in playing and teaching. He is able to adapt his teaching style to whatever suites your needs, from beginner to advanced. Highly recommend.”

– Kyle Rasmussen

"...He defines a way to do it all intuitively."

“Alex is an amazing and patient teacher! The greatest part about learning guitar from him is that you don’t even realize how fast your progressing as you move from one song to the next. Unlike a traditional approach of learning notes and chords separately, he defines a way to do it all intuitively.”

– Henry Kosarzycki

"We observe demonstrable progress throughout each school year..."

“Our son has been a student for 3 years now and we keep coming back! Alex is thoroughly invested in our student’s success, and he makes such great resources available for practicing during the week. We observe demonstrable progress throughout each school year – a credit to both regular practicing and Alex’s instruction. Thank you so much!”

– Mark Nimmer

"Engaging, thoughtful about curriculum, and flexible throughout...."

My young children began piano lessons with Robin (Robyn?–apologies!) this past summer, and with every session, I’m increasingly impressed with her teaching skills. She’s engaging, thoughtful about curriculum, and flexible throughout, especially when meeting the pedagogical needs of a 7-yo and a 4-yo in the same session. No easy task! I highly recommend her instruction for a welcoming but challenging journey into piano.

– Leslie McAbee

"Our son enjoys practicing and likes that he gets to choose some of the songs he works on."

“Alex has been teaching our 12-year-old drum lessons for almost a year. It has been a great experience for our son. Alex shares his passion for music in a professional way, and works well with kids. Our son enjoys practicing and likes that he gets to choose some of the songs he works on. Alex is a clear communicator, and he is encouraging as well. I’m looking forward to watching our son grow as a musician under Alex’s guidance!”

– Louise Abramowski

"Our Son Looks Forward To His Lesson Each Week."

“Our 8 year old son started drum lessons with Alex about 6 months ago and he absolutely loves it. Alex is so nice, funny, and has a great way of engaging with the kids. He explains things very clearly and our son looks forward to his lesson each week. And he also likes that he gets to play “cool” songs. Thanks Alex!”

– Stacie Hojnacki

"...I look forward to every lesson..."

“I have two sons that are both talented musicians. As they were growing up they had many good teachers throughout the years. They, and I, were fortunate that way. So when I decided to take the challenge of learning to play an instrument myself I had a pretty good idea of what I’d need to succeed and learn.

I found Milwaukee Music Lessons with a Google search, they were close by and had daytime availability which I preferred. I am very happy that I did. I am working with Robyn and she is an absolutely wonderful teacher. She is a patient encouraging person who has taught me so much in such a short time. She takes time to work things out with me at my beginner level, even though she is an accomplished musician. Not every musician has the ability to work with those who are just starting, but Robyn does and I look forward to every lesson I attend with her. She knows how to get the most out of every session and I look forward to continuing my musical journey with her expert assistance.”

– Dave Skowronek

"Could not be a better investment in myself."

“I’ve been taking lessons with Alex for nearly 3 years and it’s been the best! His lessons are very student-led and he will teach me whatever I want to learn, which keeps me motivated, rather than learning from a structured book. Yet he also pushes me when I need it to make sure I’m improving. Not only is he an extremely talented guitarist, but he has an answer for every question, whether it’s about gear or music theory. Could not be a better investment in myself.

– Sydney Drosen

"Alex Makes Music Fun Again For Me."

“I’m 53 and wanted to expand my music knowledge and better my guitar playing skills. Alex has been able to not only go at a pace that fits my comprehension, but give me lessons to work on at home so I can work on at my own speed. In 1 month of working with Alex, I’ve been able to write a song, understand what key it’s in and come up with a solo that complements the song. It’s mind blowing how simple he makes it to understand. Alex makes music fun again for me.

– Ken Hanrahan
