FAQ
Are Teachers Paid Hourly?
At Milwaukee Music Lessons, teachers are paid on a piece-rate system — meaning you earn for each lesson you teach. Every half-hour lesson equals one “piece,” and each piece is paid at your set rate (for example, $15 per half hour).
We work hard to keep your schedule tight and efficient so your teaching time is as productive as possible. Most teachers have only one open slot within a typical 3–4-hour teaching block, helping you stay focused, minimize downtime, and make the most of each shift.
Are you 1099 or W2?
All of our teachers are W-2 employees, not independent contractors. That means no invoices, no self-employment taxes, and a lot less paperwork on your end.
We also use direct deposit for every paycheck, so your earnings go straight to your account — no extra errands or waiting around for checks to clear.
How often is your pay period?
We pay every two weeks, on the first business day of the week (usually Monday).
All payments are made through direct deposit, so your earnings go straight to your account — fast, secure, and completely hassle-free.
What Ages Does The Studio Teach?
We welcome students ages 6 and up for most instruments, including guitar, piano, and drums.
For voice lessons, we start at age 10 and up, when students are typically ready to use their voices safely and confidently.
What Happens If A Student No Shows?
Teachers are paid for every scheduled lesson, even if a student misses or cancels.
In some cases, you may be asked to teach over Zoom or record a short video lesson as a substitute for an in-person session. These requests always take place during the student’s regular lesson time, so your schedule stays consistent.
How Do Bonuses Work?
At Milwaukee Music Lessons, teachers can earn bonuses in several ways that reward great teaching and community growth:
Retention Bonus: When a student continues lessons for more than three months, their teacher earns a bonus for helping that student stay consistent and motivated.
Review Bonus: If a student or parent leaves a positive review on platforms like Google or Yelp, the student’s teacher receives a bonus as a thank-you for delivering an exceptional experience.
Referral Bonus: Teachers who refer new students to the studio can earn a sign-on bonus once that student officially joins.
